THE GALLERY

Antoine Chenevière enjoys a reputation for stocking important Russian furniture of the ‘Golden Period’ between 1780 and 1840 as well as Italian, German, Austrian and North European furniture. The gallery has sold works to major museums including the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Legion of Honour in San Francisco, and has helped to form distinguished private collections in Europe and the United States. With his expertise, Antoine Chenevière can assist collectors in making the right choice, advise on the display of works of art, insurance matters and commission purchases at auction. The gallery is located in Mayfair at 38 Dover Street, between Old Bond Street and Berkley Street, near Piccadilly and the Ritz Hotel, at the heart of the London art world.

THE HISTORY

Antoine Chenevière established his first gallery in Geneva in 1976 specializing in Russian and North European furniture. In 1985 he opened a London gallery in Dover Street, before moving to Mount Street in 1989, and then to Bruton Street in 1995 and then to the current Mayfair location at 38 Dover Street.

Focusing on Russian furniture, and having become aware of the lack of information available on this subject, Antoine Chenevière published ‘Russian Furniture - The Golden Age 1780 - 1840’ in 1988, which remains a standard reference work, indeed, the only complete study on the subject.

Antoine Chenevière has become an international authority on Russian furniture and his advice is sought by private collectors and museums alike.
